Honoring Our Heroes: NFHS Veterans Day Ceremony

Newton Falls High School proudly hosted its annual Veterans Day ceremony on November 11, honoring the service and sacrifice of those who have defended our freedom.

Over 70+ veterans attended the ceremony, and were announced and honored as they entered the NFHS Auditorium.

The event was entirely student-led, a true reflection of the compassion, respect, and leadership that define our Tigers.

Throughout the school, students created heartfelt tributes to veterans, including posters, banners, and displays highlighting local service members and their stories.

The ceremony itself featured powerful student performances — from interpretive dances and original poetry readings to several dramatic vignettes celebrating past and present veterans.

Senior Calleigh Swiger delivered an emotional rendition of Alice in Chains’ “Rooster,” which moved many in attendance, while others presented readings, songs, and artistic expressions that honored the courage and legacy of America’s heroes.

This year’s production was organized and led by students from across grade levels, including the junior and senior classes. Senior Class President Ellie Falb helped coordinate the student teams and reflected on the meaning behind their work:

“We wanted to create something that truly honored every veteran in our community — not just with words, but through art, music, and movement. I’m so proud of how our students came together to make this ceremony something unforgettable.”

Social studies teacher Brian Bugos, who helps coordinate the event each year, praised the dedication behind the effort:

“Our students pour their hearts into this ceremony every year. It’s more than just an assembly — it’s a living lesson in gratitude and citizenship. They take pride in creating something meaningful that truly honors our veterans.”

Fellow teacher Peter Shelby echoed that sentiment, noting how much ownership students take in the event:

“This is entirely student-driven. From planning the decorations to writing speeches and reaching out to local veterans, they do it all. It’s incredible to see their respect, creativity, and leadership shine through.”

Once again, the ceremony brought together students, staff, families, and local veterans in a powerful celebration of courage and service.

The halls of Newton Falls were filled with stories of bravery and resilience — a reminder that freedom is never free, and gratitude should never fade.

To all who served and continue to serve: THANK YOU. You will always have a place of honor here in Tiger Nation.
