Attendance Matters at Newton Falls Schools

At Newton Falls Schools, our shared goal is to ensure every student feels supported, connected, and prepared for long-term success.

One of the most important factors in achieving that goal is regular school attendance.

When students attend school consistently, they benefit academically, socially, and emotionally. Daily attendance allows students to stay engaged in instruction, build strong foundational skills, and make steady progress toward learning goals.

Just as importantly, being present helps students stay connected to peers, develop positive relationships with teachers and staff, and feel a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

Even occasional absences can add up quickly.

Missing school means missing direct instruction, classroom discussions, collaborative learning, and hands-on experiences that are difficult to replace. Research consistently shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well academically, remain motivated, and reach long-term goals both in school and beyond.

We also recognize that families may face challenges that impact attendance.

Research Snapshot: Attendance and Student Success

Educational research makes one thing clear: attendance matters for all students.

  • Chronic absenteeism is associated with lower academic performance and increased disengagement from school (U.S. Department of Education, n.d.).
  • Schools with higher overall absenteeism rates see negative effects across the entire student population, not just for students who miss school frequently (Attendance Works, 2025).
  • Consistent attendance supports academic growth, motivation, and stronger long-term educational and life outcomes (Balfanz & Byrnes, 2024).

We believe in working together with families to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.

If your family is experiencing barriers to regular attendance, please know that we want to partner with you. Our counseling team is available to help identify challenges, connect families with resources, and support students in getting back on track. Even small improvements in attendance can make a meaningful difference.
